Yesterday as the third and final Presidential debate was set to get underway in Boca Raton, FL, Housing Works’ staff and members of C2EA (Campaign to End AIDS) took to the streets to demand that the candidates, as well as the next President, commit to finding housing solutions for PLWA, reinstate funding for syringe exchange programs, and ending the war on women and transwomen across the globe.

The activists began their day very early yesterday, attending the filming of two influential shows, “Morning Joe” and “Way Too Early,” where they met MSNBC host Mike Barnicle, NBC news correspondent Andrea Mitchell, and former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. In fact, after speaking with C2EA activists and the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS, Ford Jr. signed the AIDS Vote petition that would make HIV/AIDS a top-priority for the next President and his Administration. After their early “Morning Joe,” the activists continued their message that “HIV/AIDS is an election issue” by walking the streets of Boca Raton, carrying signs reading, “Our next President must commit to Getting to Zero New HIV Infections” and wearing t-shirts that read, “I have HIV.”

Housing Works and C2EA were joined by activists from the Condomize! campaign and a number of women’s rights groups.

Although the Presidential debates are over and we are officially two weeks away from the election—nay, THE ELECTION—Housing Works, C2EA and other AIDS activists will continue to push for the country’s leaders to take the steps to end AIDS in the country and around the world.
