Our Job Training Program provides real-world training for real life jobs within a community that fosters healing and support. Housing Works guarantees full-time employment and living wages for all graduates so that stable pay and sustained health are always in sight.
The Second Life Job Training Program (JTP) empowers clients with job readiness and life skills with the goal of employing graduates with full-time, salaried careers.
Are you eligible? Our JTP is available to individuals who are actively engaged in case management for no less than six months and referred by their case management program.

- HIV- with two of the following chronic illness: (Housing Works clients only)
- Heart Disease
- Mental Health Condition
- Substance Use Issue
There are two phases of our Job Training program.
Phase One: Pre-Vocational (3 Months)
Activities: Basic skills training in areas of self-esteem, communication, critical thinking skills, and other skills that enable our JTP students to interact effectively and harmoniously with other people.
Continuing education requirement: Trainees are required to enroll in continuing education while going through JTP. During Phase 1, they must begin researching their academic options and begin their applications for programs and financial aid.
Phase Two: Vocational 6—9 Months
Activities: After phase 1, trainees advance to subsidized jobs at Housing Works and/or its subsidiaries for and are compensated with a stipend as a peer worker. This phase is comprised of three components: 1) subsidized work/on-the-job training, 2) classes, and 3) job coaching.
Continuing education requirement: Trainees will continue the program research started in Phase1; If they completed it then, at this stage, they will enroll. If a trainee has prior experience in continuing Ed, JTP will give credit for vocational and or college courses that are related to the trainee’s job track.
Upon graduating from the program, trainees are granted full-time employment within Housing Works or one of its affiliates. They also become members of the Elder’s Committee, a network created to support graduates. They will receive post graduation support from their job coach and his/her supervisor for a minimum of six months to assist with the transition from trainee to an employee!
