About Bailey House

Pioneering Supportive Housing Since 1983

Founded in 1983, Bailey House was the nation's first nonprofit organization dedicated to providing housing and supportive services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Established during the height of the AIDS epidemic, Bailey House helped pioneer the belief that stable housing is essential to health and well-being, a philosophy that continues to guide its work today.

For more than four decades, Bailey House has served New Yorkers facing the challenges of HIV/AIDS, chronic illness, homelessness, and behavioral health conditions. Through supportive housing, case management, behavioral health services, and connections to healthcare, the organization has helped thousands of individuals and families achieve greater stability, improved health outcomes, and renewed independence.

Remembering Gina Quattrochi

For more than 25 years, Gina Quattrochi was the heart and driving force behind Bailey House. Serving as Executive Director from 1991 until her passing in 2016, she transformed a small housing organization into a nationally recognized leader in supportive housing and HIV/AIDS advocacy. Fiercely compassionate and unwavering in her commitment to dignity, Gina championed the belief that stable housing is healthcare, helping thousands of New Yorkers access housing, services, and hope. Her vision, determination, and deep personal connection to the people Bailey House served continue to shape the organization's mission and enduring legacy.

A New Chapter with Housing Works

In 2019, Bailey House completed a merger with Housing Works, creating one of New York City's largest providers of HIV/AIDS housing, healthcare, and supportive services. As part of the merger, the Bailey House name and mission were preserved as part of the housing development and operations arm of Housing Works, expanding its capacity to serve New Yorkers in need.

The merger brought together Bailey House's decades of expertise in supportive housing with Housing Works' comprehensive healthcare, advocacy, behavioral health, and social service programs. This integrated model strengthened both organizations' ability to address the interconnected challenges of housing instability, chronic illness, and poverty.

Continuing the Mission

Today, Bailey House continues as an important part of Housing Works' commitment to ending homelessness and improving health outcomes for vulnerable New Yorkers. Its housing portfolio includes congregate and scattered-site housing programs that provide safe, affordable homes paired with wraparound support services. Together, Bailey House and Housing Works continue to advance the principle that housing is healthcare, ensuring that individuals and families have the foundation they need to thrive.

Vision

Bailey House as part of Housing Works envisions a future where all people, regardless of health status or housing circumstances, have access to safe housing, compassionate support, and opportunities to thrive. By addressing the intersection of housing and health, the organization continues its longstanding commitment to reducing homelessness and improving outcomes for people living with chronic illness.
