This Saturday, bring your friends and family of all ages and all genders to our All Ages Pride Party, hosted by Kristin Russo and Riese Bernard, with performances by the NYC Urban Word Slam Team, Chika, and Emily Wells. This event is held in partnership with Everyone is Gay and Autostraddle, and sponsored by the Tegan & Sara Foundation. The store will open at 12 noon, with performances from 1PM!
Next week, we are getting futuristic with the first event of its kind (as far as we know!). Created by Looking Glass Factory and Maxwell Neely-Cohen, Prism: Stories Through Light is a two-day residency taking place this weekend and teams up authors with programmers and graphic designers to create completely unique pieces of narrative using holograms. We're showcasing the fruits of their labor on Monday, which will feature the latest in hologram and virtual reality technology.
Authors taking part in this inaugural residency are Arabelle Sicardi (Allure, Teen Vogue, Dazed), Bijan Stephen (The Nation, Vox), Gabe Hudson (Gork, The Teenage Dragon), Tim Maughan (BBC, New Scientist), and Maria Dahvana Headley (Aerie, Magonia, The Mere Wife). We think the evening will be an unmissable audio-visual-sensory experience! Check out this sneak-peak of what the folks at Looking Glass have been up to for a little taste of what's in store.
On Tuesday, Burlesque superstar Jo Weldon is celebrating the launch of her brand new book FIERCE: A History of Leopard Print with an evening of burlesque. For just $10, you'll enjoy performances from Cheeky Lane (Downtown Superstar), Jonny Porkpie (Burlesque Mayor of NYC), Mr. Gorgeous (Mr. Exotic World 2013), Perle Noire (The Mahogany Queen of Burlesque), Medianoche (Miss Exotic World/Queen of Burlesque 2017), Corvette LeFace (Hottest Freshman 2014), The Selfie Cats, and of course Jo "Boobs" Weldon herself! Plus, Jo will be exhibiting some of her personal collection of leopard print items. Meow!
The Pride Parade will be over, but we're always out & proud here at the Bookstore, and our monthly night of LGBTQIA+ storytelling Greetings, From Queer Mountain celebrates some of the best queer talent our city has to offer. Next Wednesday, you'll be gifted performances by George Civeris, Muna Mire, David Goldberg, Jay Jurden, Shannon Matesky, and Nico Tortorella, star of TV's Younger. They will respond to the theme "Don’t Stop Me Now": think stories of perseverance, Pride, owning power, and overcoming obstacles. It will be fabulous, as always!
