The most wonderful time of the month is almost upon us! Or, at least the queerest. LGBTQIA+ showcase Greetings, From Queer Mountain takes place on Wednesday May 30th, and there is of course a fabulous line-up.
This month, you'll be gifted performances by Bowen Yang, Dennis Norris II, Kelli Trapnell, Mila Myles, Tyler Ford, and Sam Taggert. They will respond to the theme "I Can't Make You Love Me", so bring some kleenex (to wipe your tears away—don't be nasty!). Here's a lil' bit about each of this month's presenters:
Bowen Yang is a comedian, producer and formerly mediocre chemistry major based in Brooklyn, NY. He creates and produces various live shows in New York, including "LIVE ON BROADGAY" at Littlefield, "LAKE HOMO HIGH" at The Annoyance, and the "LAS CULTURISTAS" podcast.
Dennis Norris II is the author of Awst Collection—Dennis Norris II published by Awst Press, and their story "Where Every Boy is Known and Loved" was recently named as Finalist for the 2018 Best Small Fictions anthology. They currently serve as Fiction Editor at Apogee Journal, Assistant Fiction Editor at The Rumpus, and co-host of the popular podcast Food 4 Thot. They are the fourth and final Thot to perform at Greetings, From Queer Mountain, thus completing the Holy Thotfecta.
Kelli Trapnell writes literary surrealist fiction and YA adventure novels. She's a queer feminist and a lover of magical realism/SF/fantasy. She says, "If I had any wish creatively, it would be that my writing came out as the impossible love-child of Flannery O'Connor, Shirley Jackson, and Catherynne Valente."
Mila Myles is a comic and performer. She was a cast member of The Peculiar Kind, a monthly web series that candidly explored the lives and experiences of queer women of color with eye-opening and unscripted conversations. You can watch her talk about notions of short hair and beauty here.
Tyler Ford is an award-winning agender advocate, writer, and speaker, whose creative and critical writing on queer and trans identity inspires, comforts, and challenges a diverse spectrum of audiences. Tyler's published work can be found here, and they currently serve as an editor at them.
Sam Taggart is a Brooklyn-based comedian and (in his words) international pop star. He is the host of Club Comic, a showcase of comedic club tracks, standup, and special guests. Along with Bowen Yang, Taggart conceived and produced the Sex and the City-inspired Live on Broadgay and the gay teen “drama” series Lake Homo High.
