So many ways to help

Housing Works is always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help out in any of our ten thrift shops. Volunteering in one of our stores is a great way to gain retail experience (or use your retail expertise for a good cause!) while also getting to know your local community.

Visual Merchandising Intern
We are looking for an ambitious, creative visual merchandising intern to execute visual store presentations. You will gain hands-on experience building exciting visual presentations and get a behind-the-scenes look at the Housing Works thrift shopping experience. This is a great way to combine creativity, a love of fashion and retail and the desire to end the twin crises of AIDS and homelessness!
Shift: Minimum of 12 hours (3 4-hour shifts) per week, including Friday Night Set-ups where we re-merchandise the stores

Art Intern
Are you interested in applying your love of art to a worthy cause? Housing Works’ thrift shops are seeking an intern to assist staff with art research and identification of items.

Sales Associates
If you love helping people find that perfect thrift-store treasure, help us on the sales floor! We are looking for dynamic and friendly people to run the register and back counter, assist in the fitting rooms, refill and straighten up racks, merchandising the store, and help the staff with a wide variety of projects.

Friday Night Fashionistas (aka Visual Merchandising Assistants)
We are seeking eclectic and fashion-forward New Yorkers to help us put up fresh window and store displays for the weekend rush! Every Friday, each thrift shop spends one wild evening reorganizing the entire sales floor with newly donated merchandise. This is a great opportunity to put your design skills to work in a high-charged creative atmosphere.
Shift: Friday, 4-8pm

Pricing Specialists
Do you have extensive experience with identifying and pricing art, jewelry, furniture, or other antiques? We are always seeking pricing specialists to assist our staff with research and identification of valuable items. A great opportunity to share your expertise for the benefit of all!
Requisite skills: Ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with staff, customers, and other volunteers. Current owners and operators of resale stores of any kind (including online) will not be considered for this position.
