Housing Works is thrilled with the progress of its latest housing project, the Jefferson Avenue Housing Program. In 2007, Housing Works purchased an abandoned building on Jefferson Avenue in Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, one of the New York communities hardest hit by AIDS. Our goal is to transform it into 12 apartments for homeless New Yorkers living with the disease.

The Jefferson Avenue building requires extensive rehabilitation and a gut alteration of the existing structure. This major undertaking is being funded by the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance’s Homeless Housing Assistance Program and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Supportive Housing Program.

Housing Works was also awarded $5,000 from Enterprise Community Partners’ Green Communities grant program, which will help incorporate “green” building principles into the new facility. Learn more about Housing Works’ commitment to environmental sustainability
