Mental Health Centers
The Housing Works Department of Mental Health is part of the AIDS Adult Day Health Care Programs. The Mental Health Department provides psychotherapeutic services to HIV-positive New Yorkers with mental illnesses and/or chemical addictions. The department is designed to provide culturally appropriate and clinically sound mental health treatment to a disenfranchised population with multiple severe health conditions (“comorbidities”) and a history of homelessness.
Client empowerment is an underlying principle of our mental health care: We emphasize progressive life goals for our clients in hopes of both improving their quality of life and helping them reenter mainstream society with enhanced psychological, occupational and overall social functioning.
