The White House Reveals America’s First National HIV & AIDS Strategy
Long awaited plan meets equal parts hope and scrutiny from HIV & AIDS community
Today the White House revealed the National HIV & AIDS Strategy with much anticipation and at a time where AIDS Drug Assistance Program waiting lists are at a historic high (more than 2,200 as of July 13, 2010). The strategy was created as a roadmap to address the HIV & AIDS epidemic in the United States by 1) reducing HIV incidence, 2) increasing access to care and optimizing health outcomes, 3) reducing HIV-related health disparities.
The vision and expectations of the strategy are high as stated in the Executive Summary:
“The United States will become a place new HIV infections are rare and when they do occur, every person, regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or socioeconomic circumstance, will have unfettered access to high quality, life-extending care, free from stigma and discrimination.”
What are your thoughts about the strategy and are the goals stated in it relevant to your community? Please send your feedback to info@campaigntoendaids.org.
