Housing Works Labels NY Hospital Association Prez “Chicken” in Radio Ads, Protest
That’s GNYHA prez Ken Raske as a chicken. Come see the placard in action at our Wednesday March 4 demo.
On Wednesday, March 4, Housing Works will launch a radio campaign and stage a protest labeling Greater New York Hospital Association President Ken Raske a “chicken” for refusing to participate in a public debate with Health Commissioner Richard Daines about Governor Paterson’s proposed Medicaid reforms.
The Housing Works radio ad will run on the Fred Dicker – Live from the State Capitol show on Talk 1300 AM from Wednesday, March 4 to Tuesday March 10 between 10am and 11am. In the radio spot, a fictional New York State Health Commissioner tries to engage Raske in a discussion about Medicaid, only to be met by variations on “Bawk, ba-bawk, bawk!” in response.
Dozens of Housing Works staff and supporters will be protesting outside of the Greater New York Hospital Association offices!
WHEN: Wednesday, March 4 at 10:30am.
WHERE: Greater New York Health Association offices at 555 West 57th St. (between 10th and 11th Avenues)
WHAT: Dozens of Protestors will brandish signs with Raske depicted as a chicken bearing the slogans, “Why did this chicken cross the road? To avoid public debate about health care reform!” and “Don’t let this chicken lay a rotten egg on health care reform in New York State!” The backs of the placards will read “Raske: Debate Daines!”
Late last month, Daines challenged Raske to the debate but Raske declined, preferring to hide behind a multimillion dollar media campaign that distorts the truth about New York’s broken Medicaid program and Paterson’s desperately needed reforms. 60,000 New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS depend on Medicaid for health care.
Governor Paterson’s Medicaid reforms would expand the number of New Yorkers receiving Medicaid while saving the state $2.4 billion. The New York Times, New York Post and New York Daily News have all run editorials lambasting the Greater New York Hospital Association for its self-interested attempts to sabotage the Governor’s plan. Housing Works support of the plan is detailed in an op-ed that ran in the New York Daily News.
