Housing Works Thrift Shops Opens New Location in Tribeca

Housing Works Thrift Shops announced today that it will open a new location in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood at 72 Warren St. (between West Broadway and Greenwich St.). The store will offer the same incredible selection of secondhand furniture, artwork, clothing, housewares, accessories and books for which Housing Works Thrift Shops are famous. The store will also serve as a donations point for area residents.

A party featuring celebrity auction items and first peek at the store’s sought-after Spring Preview merchandise will take place on Saturday, March 7, 2009 from 1pm to 4pm. The Tribeca location will be open for business starting Tuesday, February 24, 2009. Store hours are 11am to 7pm, Monday through Saturday, and noon to 5pm on Sundays.

“We can’t wait to open in Tribeca,” said Housing Works Thrift Shops President Richard Vorisek. “The neighborhood has exactly the kind of generous community spirit that Housing Works stores depend upon.”

The Tribeca store is Housing Works Thrift Shops eighth location in New York City. The Housing Works Thrift Shops chain is thriving. In Fiscal Year 2007-2008, the stores generated $12.6 million in sales.

All profits from all eight Housing Works Thrift Shops go to Housing Works’ lifesaving services for homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS. Those services include housing, medical care, meals, job training and drug treatment programs. Like Housing Works’ other locations, the Tribeca store will provide jobs for participants in and graduates of Housing Works acclaimed job training program for people living with HIV and AIDS.

Housing Works Thrift Shops partially depend upon volunteer staffing, so neighborhood residents are warmly encouraged to volunteer at the store.

Housing Works is renting the space for its new location from the adjacent Church Street School, at 74 Warren St. Housing Works looks forward to partnering with the Church Street School on projects that will both generate income for HIV/AIDS services and teach schoolchildren the value of public service.
