To celebrate the opening of the highly anticipated Housing Works Thrift Shop in Hell’s Kitchen; Lifestyle Guru and Real Housewives of New York City GBFF, Derek “Fabulous” Warburton will host a private VIP preview party at 6pm on March 22, 2010. Guests will enjoy exclusive shopping access to our Spring Previews sales and expert style advice from Derek himself. The fashion may be hot but the signature “Derek Fabulous” cocktail, courtesy of The Works Catering will help keep the night cool. Housing Works Hell’s Kitchen will open the following day, March 23rd fro 11am-8pm.
Located on 9th Avenue between 49th and 50th streets, this star-studded event will feature the documentary premiere of Derek Loves Housing Works a special edition of his popular online series which can be found on Derek’s website, DerekLovesShopping.com. Focused on the site’s mantra to “Help, Teach, Inspire, Love and Have Fun”, Derek takes us on an inspiring look inside the medical facilities of the just turned 20-year-old grass roots HIV/AIDS organization. This documentary was created as a way to show the world how Housing Works helps and interacts with the community, as many of New York’s savviest shoppers never get a chance to look beyond the thrift and bookstores to see what Housing Works truly stands for.
“Housing Works is thrilled to partner with Derek on the grand opening of Hell’s Kitchen as he is so committed to our cause, says Richard Vorisek, President of Thrift Shops. “He is our new neighborhood audience of stylish men and women who appreciate design on a budget.”
Before Derek Warburton became Derek “Fabulous”, he made a name for himself as a Fashion Director for various high-end lifestyle publications, the guest host of “Britain’s Fashion Avenue” and “Big Boutique” on the Style Network, and as a fashion trend expert for Fox News. The fusion of style and philanthropy is no stranger to Derek. Just after college, he produced his first benefit, Fashion for Aids, a charity fashion show for AIDS Response-Seacoast in Portsmouth, NH, where he used vintage clothes to highlight the 1920s through the 1970s. The New York Times recognized him most recently for his program “How To Be Derek Fabulous” at The Bottomless Closet, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping under-privileged women return to the workforce.
Housing Works is the largest community-based and minority-controlled HIV/AIDS service organization in the United States. Since 1990, we have provided lifesaving services to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS. For more information visit www.housingworks.org.
