Housing Works Assists HIV/AIDS Clinics in Haiti
In the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12, Housing Works is working with non-profits in Haiti to create a desperately needed clinic for Haitians living with HIV/AIDS in Port-au-Prince and to relaunch a family health clinic sponsored by Brooklyn-based Diaspora Community Services.
Housing Works President and CEO Charles King has spent the last two weekends in Haiti to assist groups on the ground. He is blogging regularly about his experience.
On Sunday, King wrote:
Alcius and others have cleaned out the boutik and laid it out for its new use as a health center. We go into the old building to scavenge chairs and tables. Martha, who couldn’t walk a week ago, is up and about and greets me warmly. Everyone wants to know when we will open. Will we have food to distribute? We promise that we will be up and running on Monday, and, yes, we will have food.
