Haitian AIDS Activists Honored with Keith D. Cylar Awards, Head to D.C.

Haitian AIDS activists from the grassroots coalition Plateforme Haitienne des Associations PVVIH (PHAP+) were honored with the 2010 Keith D. Cylar International AIDS Activist Award for the organization’s tireless work in the wake of the January 12 earthquake that devastated Haiti. With the help of Housing Works and other New York-based organizations, PHAP+ has launched three clinics in Haiti and taken the UN and USAID to task for not creating a national plan for people living with HIV/AIDS in the wake of the earthquake.

The activists spoke at a panel at the New School in New York, and are currently in Washington, D.C. where they are meeting with government officials and speaking at a Congressional Briefing sponsored by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
