Action Alert: Call Senate Finance Committee Members Today!

There’s trouble in the Senate: The House of Representatives federal stimulus bill includes a critical Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) regulation moratoria but the Senate bill does not include any such language. The Senate may also try to lessen the amount of Federal Medicaid Assistance Percentage (FMAP) relief included in the House version.

The Bush-era CMS reg would lower Medicaid reimbursement rates, making access to care for poor people harder to come by. The FMAP increase would provide billions in urgently needed funding to keep state Medicaid programs—stressed by the troubled economy—fully funded.

Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) has filed an amendment to include the CMS relation moratoria language of the House bill in the Senate version.

Please call Finance Members today to ask them to support inclusion of the moratoria extension in the Senate and not cut to the $87 billion in FMAP relief!
