Independent Bookstore Day

Saturday, May 2, 2015

10:30am Storytime & Singalong with Amy Virginia Buchanan (3 & under)

11:30am Kidlit Game Show (ages 8-12): trivia, puzzles, and games with special prizes, hosted by C. Alexander London.

C. Alexander London has written books for children, teens, even a few grown ups. He’s the author of the Accidental Adventures Series, the Dog Tags series, and the forthcoming Wild Ones series for Middle Grade readers. His young adult debut, Proxy, was a 2014 Top Ten Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Readers and a 2015 Texas Lonestar Reading List and TAYSHAS Reading List selection. He lives in Brooklyn, NY, where he can be found wandering the streets talking to his dog, who is the real brains of the operation.

1pm - 4pm A Little Life cocktails with Doubleday! Our friends at Doubleday are giving away 100 drink tickets (with a purchase of $10 or more) for their special A Little Life cocktails, named after the newest acclaimed novel from Hanya Yanagihara. Yanigihara's book will also be on sale this afternoon, along with other Doubleday new releases, The Folded Clock by Heidi Julavits and Missoula by Jon Krakauer. In addition to delicious literary cocktails, we'll also have some great Doubleday swag.

Also from 1pm - 5pm Operation Indie with CoverSpy CoverSpy, one of the city's most covert literary teams, will conduct Operation Indie, spying on New Yorkers supporting Independent Bookstore Day. Book buyers will have the opportunity to be anonymously spied and photographed behind the cover of their books for the blog and social media. Participants in this event will receive one free raffle ticket per purchased book toward a literary giveaway that includes a gift card to Housing Works.

All day long:

We're thrilled to have 2015 new releases from Hachette Book Group and HarperCollins Publishers, exclusively for Independent Bookstore Day!

Special recommendations!
Authors Lev Grossman, Rosie Schaap, Jami Attenberg, and Elisa Albert combed our stock and gave us their recommendations. Come by to see what these great writers have to say about some of their favorite books.

We're also featuring staff, volunteer, and client picks, as well as a special opportunity for customers to add their own "shelf-talkers" to recommend your favorite reads.

Don't forget this weekend is also our monthly sale, so in addition to all this fun, the entire store will be 30% off!
