Does Gender Still Matter?

Friday, June 2, 2017 at 7:00pm

Finally, an answer to the persistent national debate over bathroom access. Join Heath Fogg Davis, an Associate Professor of Political Science at Temple University and member of Philadelphia's Commission on LGBT Affairs and Kylar Broadus, attorney and founder and director of the Trans People of Color Coalition as they discuss Davis' new book Beyond Trans: Does Gender Matter? (NYU Press), a thought-provoking look at the usefulness or uselessness of gender markers in today's society.

They will address the root causes of continuous discrimination of Transgender Americans, or for anyone unable to identify as a man or woman, which Davis believes is due to our societal reliance on sex segregation. A reception will follow.
