Laidback Home

Around the way girl, Bronx born and bred, Tina Shoulders has grown up a product of the hip-hop generation, using the finer elements of the culture to inspire her style and design aesthetic. She has honed her talent surface, textile and graphic design to redefine modern home design accessories and interiors for the urban hipster who loves to style outside the box.

Laidback became a vision in 2004 as Tina was designing prints, embroideries, and applications for private manufactures to use for towels, shower curtains, and tabletop. As Tina designed for these companies she
noticed the lack of stylish trendy home accessories that would cater to a younger, trendier apartment dweller.

Finally in December 2006 the sketches and strike offs became a reality, and now at just under 3 years old. Laidback has extended into lifestyle interior design as well as a product design brand. Laidback decorates homes, spaces and events for the young and young at heart hipster. Laidback designs and design contributions have been seen in Musiq Soulchilds’ VIP Lounge, “Real World Brooklyn” and “Ugly Betty.”

Tina also teaches fashion, home merchandising and viral marketing seminars at the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Tina resides in NYC and her daily train rides are one of her mains sources of inspiration for color, application, and techniques. Her eye is attuned to the few buildings that still have graffiti tags, the street and murals on many buildings, record company promo stickers, and palm cards as well as the stylish teens, skateboarders, and drifters that are unabashedly original when it comes to style. She also has a great love the use of color and pattern used in European modern design as well as the Harajuku style and community Japan, and looks forward to taking inspiration tours of both places later this year.
