Michele Drohan, Team Housing Works

Michele Drohan, Team Housing Works

Michele Drohan’s strong backhand supports Housing Works — and she’s using it later this month at Uptown, Down Under, Team Housing Works’ second annual Australian Open inspired tennis tournament fundraiser at Roosevelt Island Racquet Club on Monday, January 23, 2012, 6-9pm.

“I am a big tennis fan, and I love Housing Works,” said Drohan, an online content manager for Dish Network. “I thought it would be a really fun way to combine the two things I love to do most — help people and play tennis.”

Team Housing Works is a group of volunteer fundraisers who support Housing Works’ mission by raising money through participation in fun athletic activities, like our tennis events, or the 2012 NYC Half-Marathon. Drohan has definitely earned the Team Housing Works badge — she’s a member, volunteer, and donor. Her passion for Housing Works’ mission keeps her active.

“I think HIV and homelessness are issues people don’t pay much attention to anymore,” said Drohan. “These are very basic issues that resonate with me — if you’re sick you should be taken care of, and everyone should have a home.”

You can join Michele by registering to play or coming to watch the action. Whether player or spectator, attendees plan to come dressed as their favorite tennis star.

“I’m trying to decide if I want to do something modern, or something old school,” said Drohan. “I will be honoring the Australian theme in some capacity.”
