AIDS Activists Rally at the Capitol: An AIDS-FREE NY is Within our Reach!

Albany, NY—The fight to get to an AIDS-Free New York by 2020 gained momentum in Albany last Thursday, February 26, when the End AIDS 2020 Coalition, a group of AIDS and LGBT service organizations and activists from across the state, Housing Works among them, visited the Capitol. Our community members spent all day in Albany, first at a legislative briefing on the state plan to end AIDS as an epidemic and at a demonstration at the Drug Utilization Review Board to demand access to treatment for Hepatitis C, followed by a rally and press conference in the NY State Capitol Building War Room on the plan to end AIDS in New York by 2020.

The rally featured opening remarks by Housing Works CEO Charles King, as well as Housing Works Advocacy Peer Kiara St. James. After the rally, activists spent the afternoon making legislative office visits and meeting with elected officials and their staff to promote our end-AIDS campaign agenda. Media coverage of the campaign from the last week follows below:
