Over the past decade,
Housing Works has designed
a comprehensive range of services to address the complex, multiple, needs of our clients. Rather than impose onerous preconditions for receiving services, such as complete abstention from substance use, we offer low-threshold access to many of our programs. By meeting clients “where they're at” and working with them to set their own goals, we engage and retain people who have been rejected by more mainstream service providers. From its inception, Housing Works has maintained that supportive housing is not a reward for “good behavior” but a prerequisite to coping with such debilitating conditions as chemical dependence, mental illness, homelessness, and HIV-infection. All Housing Works programs have bilingual (English/Spanish) staff available for clients. We also have two full-time staff members as well as one peer educator fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). All facilities and services are fully accessible to people with disabilities.

Housing Works was founded upon the conviction that, when given the proper services, supports and opportunities, homeless and formerly homeless people living with AIDS/HIV are fully capable of participating productively in family, work, community, and political life—and dramatically improving their overall health. Each of our programs reflects this fundamental belief.
