International Volunteer Exchange Program

Housing Works is known for our quick expansion. We are in every borough, we have locations in D.C., Puerto Rico and Haiti, and now we are in Europe. Ok so we aren’t actually in Europe yet, but this summer we are making some great connections with five amazing international volunteers from all over the other side of ‘the pond’. Housing Works has partnered with Volunteers For Peace, an international volunteer exchange program. As a partner we provide accommodations and a learning experience for volunteers and they provide us with their expertise in areas of medicine, politics, and more. It’s a joint learning experience built out of a shared passion in societal and public health issues. The volunteers will be living at our East New York residential facility for four-weeks and interning in various departments throughout housing works.
One of the volunteers, Elia, is majoring in Dentistry in Spain. At Housing Works she is working closely with Dr. Williams in our dental clinic in downtown Brooklyn.
Over at the ENY facility, volunteers Elke and Vincent, from Belgium and France are busy getting involved in clients’ everyday activities such as day treatment programs, excursions and individual art projects.
Nicole is a South Korean Pharmaceutical student who’s interest in health care brought her to the US for studies at the University of Buffalo.
Susanna is a recent graduate in Political science from Stockholm University. She is now taking a part in HW Access to Care: Re-entry Program.
