    HASA Policies Get New Hearing Next Week

    AIDS activists are celebrating a new hearing to demand answers to recent policy changes at HASA. The hearing, called by the NYC Council, will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 1:00 p.m, on the 16th Floor, 250 Broadway, New York, NY.

    HASA seems to change policies in the dead of night, without any accountability, said Kristin Goodwin, director of NYC policy and organizing with Housing Works. “We’re happy the City Council has called HASA to explain its decisions.”

    Last year HASA announced it would no longer pay the full price for brokers’ fees for people seeking housing, and would only give landlords a “voucher” for security deposits. More recently, HASA was exposed

  • Strong Volunteers Needed for Housing Works Thrifts

    Our Housing Works Thrift Shop warehouse needs some strong volunteers to help with organizing and moving supplies. The details are as follows:

    Date: Thursdays Only
    Time: 9am-3pm
    Number of Volunteers Needed: 2
    Task and Requirements: Volunteers will assist our VP of Operations organize warehouse supplies, move/lift heavy items, and other physical tasks. Must be able to lift 30-50 pounds with assistance, must be comfortable working on ladders. Job will be dusty, please do not volunteer if you are allergic.

    On December 2, 2011, Housing Works had the opportunity to interview Jeffrey Crowley, MPH, who ends his tenure as President Obama’s Director of the Office of National AIDS Policy(ONAP) and Senior Advisor on Disability Policy this month. Crowley was appointed by President Obama to those positions in 2009. Crowley spoke to us via phone about the National HIV/AIDS Strategy, the Affordable Care Act and his legacy at ONAP.

  • Help Out at Housing Works’ Holiday Party

    Our staff at our East New York facility is seeking volunteers to help with our annual Housing Works Holiday Party. The time frames are as follows:

    • Monday: 1pm-5pm
    • Tuesday: 8am-11am, 11am-3pm, and 2pm-6pm

    Our East New York Facility is located at 2640 Pitkin Avenue, Brooklyn,NY 11208

    Volunteers would be helping with set up, serving food and drinks, and clean up
