    Construction at 874 Jefferson is proceeding according to schedule

    Construction at 874 Jefferson is proceeding according to schedule. Demolition of the original interiors is complete, and new floor joists, sub-flooring, and stairs have been installed. As the building experienced a fire under previous ownership, very little of the interior was salvageable. This gave us the opportunity to redesign the entire building from the inside while maintaining the historic façade. The result will be a new supportive housing residence that is nearly indistinguishable from its rowhouse neighbors.

    To meet the needs of the target population, we carved twelve studio apartments out of the six existing two-bedroom units, created a light-filled common space in what was once a cellar, and designed the entire building to meet

  • Construction Begins at 874 Jefferson Avenue in Brooklyn

    Housing Works is proud to announce that construction is underway at our new residence project at 874 Jefferson Avenue in Brooklyn! The project consists of the gut renovation of a vacant townhouse in Bedford Stuyvesant into twelve units of supportive housing for formerly homeless individuals living with HIV and AIDS. Each unit will contain a full bathroom and kitchen, and the ground floor will include a reception area, space for support staff, and a lounge for resident usage. The project also involves the preservation of the historic façade, a completely rebuilt interior, an excavated rear yard, and a host of green features. Within the confines of a 25-foot townhouse, this all makes for a very complicated development project.
