Housing Works Expands Hep C Treatment
Housing Works will be able to provide Hepatitis C services to at least 160 untreated individuals in the next two years, thanks to a $100,000 federal grant that funds innovative models of health care.
Starting this Fall, Housing Works is offering HCV screening, treatment and treatment supports groups at its two Manhattan health centers.
Because HCV treatment is both mentally and physically intensive, many infected individuals avoid it. Community-based organizations like Housing Works are best suited to offer HCV services (because we offer supportive help like mental health care), but treatment has traditionally taken place in more impersonal clinical settings like hospitals.
