Planned Parenthood HIV/STD Prevention Services Attacked in Tennessee
Posted by Kenyon Farrow , February 08, 2012
It was just a week ago that anti-abortion politics allegedly led the Susan G Komen Foundation to cut funding to Planned Parenthood for breast cancer screenings. This week, Planned Parenthood in Tennessee is under attack, this time impacting the HIV/STD prevention services of the organization.
The Tennessean reports that “Planned Parenthood of Middle and East Tennessee and Planned Parenthood Greater Memphis Region filed suit in federal court Thursday saying the state barred them from participating, not out of questions about the programs’ administration, but as an effort to defund Planned Parenthood because it provides abortions. The suit says the group has participated in the prevention programs for more than 10 years and was the only group in the state barred from receiving funding for the programs this year.”
