Tribute by Humberto Cruz
We are gathered here to remember and give tribute to an unique
individual, Keith Ceyler.
I can not recall when I met Keith, he has always been there,
one of the leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
I do recall that when I first saw him, my thoughts were: “Wow,
what a handsome man!
I recognized his brilliance and strategic thinking.
I heard the passion and caring in his voice.
I remember thinking: “ Beauty, passion, caring and brilliance,
we are facing a formidable individual, beware!”
Keith was all those things and much more.
He was a tireless fighter in many battles
He provided comfort, advise and shelter for those in need or
forgotten by society.
He was a human being, with flaws, but also with formidable strengths.
He fell and stood up, stronger, wiser and more determined, as
he learned hard won life lessons.
He was also a friend to many, but specially loved Charles King.
His friend and partner for many years.
Last week Charles and I had dinner, a night I will never forget.
As we cried, laughed and remembered Keith, he said, that their
dream, once AIDS was conquered, was to leave the United States
and move to a quiet but beautiful place, were the two of them
would live the remaining years of their live.
I remembered telling Charles, he will be there, in that special
place, waiting for many of us to join him at the appropriate
time, specially you Charles. Keith is not gone, through the
work done by Housing Works and by the memories held by those
he touched, he lives among us.
Keith, I share the clamor of those voices saying: “I miss you,
you are gone before your time”.
God bless you. |
