National and Global Activism

Since 2004, when Housing Works opened its Washington, D.C. office, we have continually expanded our activist reach. Through spin-off groups like AIDS Action in Mississippi and the national activist organization the Campaign to End AIDS, Housing Works is able to embrace issues all over the U.S. A major forum at 2008’s International AIDS Conference marked our emergence as a force on the international stage for AIDS housing.

• AIDS Action in Mississippi is negotiating with the Mississippi Department of Health to provide supportive housing for people with AIDS, which would be the first of its kind in the state

• Campaign to End AIDS has developed a grassroots network of AIDS activists throughout the world that hold their leaders accountable

• Housing Works works in partnership with AIDS activists in Puerto Rico to address the AIDS crisis in the commonwealth

• Housing Works and national and local co-counsel filed suit in Mississippi federal court challenging Mississippi’s drastic new restrictions on prescription drug coverage for Medicaid recipients.
