AIDSVote 2009
Welcome to AIDSVote 2009. AIDSVote 2009 is a project created by a coalition of people living with HIV/AIDS and nonprofit organizations, including Housing Works, the New York City AIDS Housing Network, and Village Care, to collectively ask candidates where they stand on urgent issues related to AIDS.
Mayoral forum cancelled—protest announced!
AIDSVote recently invited mayoral candidates Bill Thompson and Michael Bloomberg to participate in an AIDS-focused mayoral forum. Not only did Bloomberg decline to participate in the forum, he refused to even fill out an AIDSvote questionnaire!
In response, Housing Works and the Women’s HIV Collaborative have organized a protest outside of Bloomberg’s campaign headquarters at which Thompson will speak. The protest will take place on Tuesday, October 20, at 12:30 PM at 111 West 40th Street (betw. B’way and 6th Ave).
See more information about the protest.
Candidate questionnaires and profiles
To get candidate positions in black and white, we sent candidate questionnaires to every single candidate who is running for city office in 2009. As the questionnaires are returned, we’ll be analyzing them and posting candidate profiles. Posted at right are profiles of candidates for city council, comptroller and public advocate.
Community forums
To find out even more about what candidates think, we are holding two community forums. Check out the coverage of our September 1 comptroller and public advocate forum from the AIDS Issues Update and City Hall News.
